Gronkowski was born on May 14, 1989, in Amherst, New York, and was raised nearby in Williamsville.
He is the second-youngest child to Gordon Gronkowski and Diane Walters, and he has Polish ancestry through his father.
In college football, his father played guard for Syracuse University from 1977 to 1981. Subsequently, he founded a business that provides top-of-the-line fitness equipment.
He is Ignatius Gronkowski’s great-grandson, a cyclist for the United States who rode in the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, and set five world records in the process.

Before transitioning to the professional level, all four of his brothers—Gordie, Dan, Chris, and Glenn—participated in collegiate sports.

Gronkowski decided to enroll at the University of Arizona after graduating from high school. In 2007, he did a great job as a freshman, recording 28 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns. Several magazines gave him honorable mentions.
He received two John Mackey National Tight End of the Week awards the following season. Despite being a fantastic player, a back issue forced him to sit out his junior season in 2009.
The New England Patriots selected him in the 2010 NFL Draft. Later, he agreed to a four-year deal worth $4.4 million, including a $1.76 million signing bonus. His outstanding play throughout his first campaign earned him three nominations for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week.
His first touchdown reception came in their first victory over the Miami Dolphins, which marked a strong start to his second season. With a total of 10 touchdowns by the eleventh week, he was leading all tight ends. He broke the NFL tight end record for touchdowns scored in a season during the Patriots’ victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
He was initially prescribed a course of antibiotics for the infection in his forearm that was discovered in the early months of 2013. He underwent surgery as well afterwards. He was prepared to resume playing by October 2013. He kept up his excellent play for the Patriots.
